BIOGRAPHY
BACKGROUND AND GOALS
Calum Sutherland is a Chicago based visual communications designer currently a junior in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago having transferred from Oregon State University. Calum mainly focuses on print media but has experience in social media, branding, and web design among other things. His work is equal parts physical work and digital with many digital projects having their origins in physical sketches and mockups. The primary tools he uses are Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop but has experience in many different adobe suite programs.
Calum aims to achieve cleaner designs with each successive project and is always improving via his peers and creative support from the institute. Currently he is focused on poster and advertisement design and utilizing hierarchy in order to delineate the importance of information. A key part of his work is achieving a balance of including necessary information while maintaining a compositional harmony. Apart from design experience Calum has also been trained in photography and uses this to aid in his work as a graphic designer creating media for designs.
